PRODUCTION NOTES

The “ORBIS PICTUS or The Gate to the World of Creative Human Imagination” Exhibition.

“Imagination bursts the chains of slavery, and if, in addition, it proves creative,
it establihes a solid basis for a better world”

During the last 50 years Western Civilization has made unprecedented progress greatly improving the life for people from all walks of life. In today’s society decision-making is fairly simplified and all of us enjoy a certain level of security and comfort. Nonetheless, this process also creates a fundamental drawback, i.e. the loss of personal initiative and responsibility for solving problems and issues. We often miss a new approach and way of thinking in all spheres of public life. Looking at history, it becomes clear that human society owes everything it has achieved to creative minds and their courage to solve their own problems as well as those of others. The Pampaedia Project aims at developing such creative minds. Its chief goal is to lead individuals and society at large away from the trodden paths and outdated habits we encounter every day. It combats, above all, intolerance, indifference, passivity, and wants to encourage every one of us to accept responsibility for our problems. The ORBIS PICTUS Project pretends to implement its credo by way of an Exhibition touring the entire globe and suplemented by a diversified programme performed by artists and experts.

The heart of the Project is an interactive, audio-visual ORBIS PICTUS Exhibition, inspired by John Amos Comenius in his work “The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart” and designed by the Czech artist Petr Nikl.
